As part of our ongoing collaboration with Friends of the Ospreys, we are delighted to be able to share some very exciting news regarding Glaslyn connected birds.
We were beyond thrilled to discover that Aran is breeding on a local Friends of the Ospreys private nest with Blue 7C1 (Cumbria 2022), it is not known how many eggs they have. 7C1 is a daughter of Blue 9C (Glaslyn 2014) and therefore a granddaughter of the original Glaslyn pairing Mrs G and 11(98). After seeing Aran being ousted from the Glaslyn nest last year this is particularly wonderful news and the fact that the female also has a direct Glaslyn connection is very special indeed.
Blue 499 (Glaslyn 2022) is bonding at a private nest erected by Friends of the Ospreys on Anglesey with Blue 3C2, a Scottish female hatched on a nest near Carrbridge, where she was ringed as a chick on 16/07/24. As 3C2 is only two years old it is possible that they might not breed this year, although there are records of two-year-old Ospreys breeding and it is still early in the breeding season. The future is looking very promising for this young pairing.
Finally, we are very pleased to announce that a pair of Ospreys have taken up residence on the new Friends of the Ospreys Ty’n Llwyn nest, which can be viewed from our John Parry Hide at Pont Croesor. The ospreys are Blue KS6 (Dyfi 2018) and Blue 019 (Poole Harbour translocation 2019), who have relocated from the Friends of the Ospreys nest in the Glaslyn Valley that they had been breeding on since 2022.
