Once the Ospreys have left the Glaslyn Valley on their winter migration it’s going to be a busy few months on site at Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife.
Generous donations from our supporters last year towards the proposed Traeth Bach land purchase, which sadly we were unable to progress, are instead being used to improve habitat and biodiversity around the Pont Croesor site.
Our exciting habitat enhancement plans on land surrounding the Visitor Centre and John Parry Hide will include the creation of a wildflower meadow to support bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators.
Other zones will be mapped out to include a scrape and wildlife pond to create a habitat for amphibians and attract dragonflies and birds.
Native trees, hedgerows and shrubs will also be planted to encourage nesting sites for birds. Additional bird and bat boxes and insect hotels will be installed on site.
A nature trail through the wildflower meadow will feature interpretation boards for visitors detailing the habitat and species.
We have engaged countryside management experts Kehoe Countryside Ltd (Bangor) to undertake the work for us.
